About

Hi! I’m Samuel Sierra, a London-based videographer, editor and photographer.

I’m passionate about exploring the depths of the human experience through a combination of traditional and experimental cinematic and photographic techniques. To keep my artistic imagination constantly flowing, I draw inspiration from my dreams, depth psychology, spirituality, theology, anthropology, history, films, documentaries, as well as a wide range of art forms. Ultimately, I want to ignite in my audience the same feelings of profound fascination, inspiration and awe that I get from my artistic and intellectual influences.

One way that ensures I maintain my creative flow while pushing myself is to avoid my comfort zone. A musical hero of mine, David Bowie, described it perfectly:

“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth, and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”

If I’m not filming a project, I at least have a photography camera at hand to capture the people, things and places I come across. I often ask myself, how can I capture this moment or person or thing in a way that’s authentic to how I perceive it?  How can I externalise the feelings that the scene evokes through imagery? One of my favourite photographers, Sebastião Salgado, stated, “Photography is the story I fail to put into words.” This rings true for my filmmaking voice too. Whether there are words being spoken, which serve as a useful surface-level layer for understanding a topic, I like to juxtapose this with imagery that digs into a deeper layer that communicates more complex or abstract feelings through visual expression.
